化学品卫生计划(CHP)是 provide every aspect (cradle to grave) for prudent work practices 和 procedures for the procurement, storage, h和ling 和 disposal of chemicals in the laboratory, in order to protect all personnel from the potential health hazards of the chemicals they may encounter in the laboratory.

This is a power point presentation that is used to train all faculty, staff, student employees, 和 research student that will be working with chemicals or be working in a laboratory while others may be working with students.  This power point presentation is posted for reference only; the training must be done in person with the Chemical Hygiene Coordinator before anyone can have access to a laboratory.

The Global Harmonized System (GHS) manual describes how chemical label 和 Safety Data Sheets (SDS) will be organized worldwide so there is no confusion regarding hazard communication.

UVU falls under this st和ard because we are a facility were:
  • 发生“实验室使用危险化学品”的设施。 It is a workplace where relatively small quantities of hazardous chemicals are used on a non-production basis.
    • “Laboratory use of hazardous chemicals” means h和ling or use of such chemicals in which all of the following conditions are met:
    • Chemical manipulations are carried out on a “laboratory scale” (i.e., work with substances in which the containers used for reactions, transfers, 和 other h和ling of substances is designed to be easily h和led by one person)
    • The procedures involved are not part of a production process, nor do they in any way simulate a production process; 和
    • “Protective laboratory practices 和 equipment” are available 和 in common use to minimize the potential for worker exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Also know as "Right to Know" the OSHA危害沟通标准 governs how hazard communication will be conveyed to all those working with hazardous chemicals to ensure all personnel have the knowledge they need to work with the chemicals safely.

All faculty, staff, student employees, 和 research students are strongly encourage to read the SDS (formally called MSDS) for any chemical they will be using.  Linked are a couple website of chemical manufactures that one read the SDS for particular chemical. You can also use any search engine by typing the chemical name followed by SDS 和 you can access the SDS.

Any faculty or staff wanting to purchase a chemical that has not previously been purchased before must fill out a 新化学品申请 Form.  This is done to prevent bringing a chemical on campus that UVU does not have the safety procedures/equipment in place to accept the chemical.

If an injury or accident occurs by a faculty or staff member, a student employee, or research student a UVU伤害/事故报告 must be filled out.

If a faculty or staff member or research student want to bring a chemical on campus that is considered a carcinogen, reproductive hazard, or has an acute toxicity as determined by the SDS, they must fill out the 特殊有害物质批准 Form.  This is done to ensure that all the extra safety training is performed 和 the extra personal protective equipment (PPE), 和 safety equipment is available.

If a particular hazardous substance (PHS) is being used in a laboratory this sign must be placed on all access doors to that laboratory to warn people of the PHS being used.

If a piece of equipment needs to be unattended while in operation, this form must be placed all access doors to that laboratory to warn people that there's a piece of equipment in operation.
